But all in all I still sit here grateful. We had a beautiful holiday, the boys enjoyed themselves and got way more than they needed. We had some awesome food, baked goods, and enjoyed the cooler weather. It sounds perfect but who defines perfect? Is it perfect that on the way to see Christmas lights in a town over, one child ate too fast and puked all over his car seat... Is it perfect that at the preschooler's school performance, both younger ones had melt downs and forced us to watch the show from the back? Is it perfect that on Christmas morning, the toddler found some Christmas goldfish in his stocking and was so consumed with eating them that he didn't pay much attention to the rest of the gifts? Or how about the decorating cookie part? When people talk about the fun tradition they don't talk about having to tell the kids that people are actually supposed to eat these... So no coughing on them..sneezing on them.. Touching your tongue and then the cookies lol...Sounds stressful and comical all at the same time. Sounds far from perfect but somehow it was.
Our lives are chaotic with three little ones. Our days are loud and exhausting and most of the time far from the appearance of perfection. But for us? They are perfect. We had our setbacks and frustrations this holiday season but we also had each other. We got to experience the magic of the season and watch it through our boys' eyes. We may not have been able to attend lavish Christmas parties with adult friends or play in the snow like one day I hope we will.. But for us.. It was everything we hoped for and needed.. We baked.. And crafted.. And napped..and did Christmas movies and song singing.. It was stressful and tantrums were thrown..but it was perfect.. It was our perfect.
I hope everyone had a magical holiday and that the magic carries into the new year. I'm so excited to see what the new year brings for us and hope that that everyone enjoys their own version of perfection.
