Last week my littlest love turned a month old. Fastest month ever! Time flies when you are not sleeping and covered in spit up! Ha!
The first few weeks with a newborn is a roller coaster of happenings. You welcome this tiny person who you waited ten months to meet and are overwhelmed with all the love. You finally get to see this being that you created with your spouse. You count their ten tiny fingers...ten tiny toes. You smell them. Cuddle them. All the feelings... But the same little being also has no sleeping schedule... is apparently very hungry all the time.. wails at the teensiest bit of pee or poop...and spits up regularly with pretty awesome force. It is all very awesome.
A month in and we are all very much in love. This little dude nursed for the first time within minutes of being born and hasn't let up. So grateful for a good nursing relationship so far. A month in and his sleep is finally starting to get better. He just was on opposite schedules of wanting to sleep all day and party all night. Now we are getting longer stretches at night. His alertness during his awake time is increasing a whole bunch. He smiles so much in his sleep (and if he's gassy) but a few days ago I got a real one! He is definitely starting to recognize voices and is trying to focus on faces.
We are finishing out the last package of newborn diapers and will be heading into size ones. He already outgrew his newborn clothes (cue the tears) and is in three month outfits. He cries when I initially put him in the bath but then ends up loving them. He's only had a few full baths because his cord took forever to all off. Definitely the longest out of all the boys. He loves his rock and play and swing and will sleep pretty well in them. He is not a big fan of the car seat though. For the first week or two he was doing awesome at sleeping through noise but now not so much. Makes that difficult with three older brothers that make noise no matter what they are doing.
We are trying to be super careful about taking him out and about because it is flu season and such but with his older brothers and school drop off and pickup..and activities.. it is kind of hard. This week for example his brothers tagged team and all came down with a stomach bug. Last thing we wanted but what can we do?
He loves being worn so I like to wrap him as much as possible. He sleeps in the wrap at his brother's soccer game... even stayed snoozing while we walked the corn maze a few weeks ago.
As I experienced with the other boys, as a newborn his looks change almost daily. One day we are saying he looks like so and so and the next we change our mind. I am just trying to soak it all up and enjoy this experience and his wonderful little newness and sweetness. I am happily exhausted and just so very thankful for all my little dudes. <3
